The Wilds
Holly Arntzen – Vocals, Dulcimer, Piano
Kevin Wright – Vocals, Cajon, Congas
David Sinclair – Guitars
Brian Newcombe – Bass (Vancouver)
Steve Moyer – Bass (Vancouver Island)

The Wilds is led by singer/songwriters Holly Arntzen and Kevin Wright of the Artist Response Team (ART). When Holly and Kevin sing together think Joni Mitchell meets Bon Scott. An unlikely combination, but one that bears rich sounds, energy and a unique perspective. They mix up heart and soul with edge, serious issues with humour. The four piece line-up is topped off with world-class guitarist, David Sinclair (Sarah McLachlan, kd lang) and his electric shredding and infectious acoustic plucking and the ripping rock solid bass licks of Brian Newcombe or Steve Moyer.

The sound of The Wilds is Folk Pop to Rock Your World – the folk/blues of Holly’s slide dulcimer, mixed with Kevin’s hard hitting cajon and congas, anchored by a guitar/bass combo and lit up by rich vocal harmonies. The Wilds’ songs take you on a cultural, ecological journey, from the soaring mountain tops of Roses in October and the pounding downpour of Pennies From Heaven to the spawning rivers of Up Your Watershed! and the old-growth forests of Mr. Douglas.

The Wilds is a project for band mates who have played together for many years in different forms. “We just got tired of saying everyone’s names so we decided to call ourselves The Wilds.” In 2012 they released a live CD, The Wilds – Live at the DGS,featuring a unique mix of classic Holly Arntzen songs, brand new material by Holly and Kevin, as well as fan favourite covers by CCR, The Pogues and Paul Simon.

Some recent featured performances include Creatively United for the Planet Festival headliners (2012 & 2013 Victoria, BC) Cohofest (West Vancouver 2011 & 2012), Island Folk Fest Providence Farm (2012 Main stage, Island stage and a workshop), Brackendale Art Gallery (2013).

Holly, Kevin and The Wilds regularly lead Voices of Nature concerts which feature thousands of young people every year. Recent concerts include 3 shows at the Bell Centre for Performing Arts in Surrey, Michael J. Fox Theatre in Burnaby and the Myer Horowitz Theatre in Edmonton.

ROSES IN OCTOBER (live) - In Hiroshima, each year on August 6th, the anniversary of the dropping
of the atomic bomb, people send out candle lanterns on the river to remember those who died, and reflect on what was done.
Nowadays, when we see roses blooming far later than normal, we are challenged to ask ourselves what we’re doing
in this age of changing weather…and to think deeply and have a profound vision…no more “shallow dreaming”.

5IVE SISTERS (live) - True story about a man who was injured in a pulp mill accident and never went back to work.
Years later he single handedly blockaded the entrance to Shoal Island log sort in Crofton, BC to protest the export of
raw logs and closures of local saw mills.
